iPhone 12 is undoubtedly the talk of the party for this month. Prior to the launch, many tech enthusiasts from all around the globe were discussing this new innovation and surely, lots are eager to challenge its capabilities.

A series of videos titled ’Experiments’ has been broadcasted by Apple and before, we have seen filmmakers work with mobile phones creating impressive movie videos but with iPhone 12, it shall get ’darker’.

Why so? The iPhone 12 is equipped with a LiDAR sensor which gives you a thorough AR depth mapping. It will give you faster and more precise auto-focus, alongside Apple 6x speed for auto focusing in low light conditions. All of the mentions is the centre of attention of Experiments V: Dark Universe.

Filmmakers usually will use additional tools to support in making their imaginations to happen despite been talking about the pros of owning iPhone 12 Pro. The results were not bad but somehow looks slightly odd from what expected, with different forms of liquids and solids.

Just watch the videos attached and let’s see if our minds were alike.

If you can see, the videos are in portrait mode (reminds me of Tiktok)

Anyway, Dark Universe is the fifth instalment in the Experiments series. You can also find (and I don’t know, compare?) with earlier episodes; Elements, Full Circle, Cascade, Fire & Ice. This series, Apple is a series that tells you the capabilities iPhone with its simplicity but still boundless creativity

So earlier this month, Apple introduced its new iPhone 12 at 1am Malaysian time during the virtual Apple event to fans and potential customers.

Now good news(?) for Malaysians, the new iPhone 12 lineup will be available for pre-order starting this November 6 and Digi Telecommunications Sdn Bhd (Digi) will offer the new iPhone 12 lineup, including iPhone 12 Pro, iPhone 12 Pro Max, iPhone 12, and iPhone 12 mini with the smarter instalment plan, Digi PhoneFreedom 365!

Though the phone(s) and what comes (or doesn’t) in the box has been criticised, the iPhone 12 series does have some new updates and features.

During the “Hi, Speed” special event, Apple claimed that the new iPhone 12 line covers the most 5G bands in the market. The iPhone 12 also comes with a Smart Data Mode that dynamically switches the connectivity of the phone from 5 G to LTE when the speed is not needed by users.

It also comes with a Smart Data Mode that dynamically switches the connectivity of the phone from 5 G to LTE when the speed is not needed by users. 2 models; the iPhone 12 mini and the standard iPhone 12 are powered by the 5nm A14 Bionic processor which features 6-core CPU with 2nd generation ML accelerator, 4-core GPU, and 16-core Neural Engine.

Apple also stated that MagSafe chargers can deliver up to 15W of charging power which is double the maximum power rating that the iPhone 12 series can support for Qi wireless charging.

Other than Apple not including the charger in the packaging anymore when you purchase the phone to be more “environmental friendly”, there are a few things that fans expected but did not receive as well such as the quad-cameras and a smaller or less visible notch.

But hey, you can’t win them all. That’s life. Anyways, through a press note, Digi announced that the iPhone 12 lineup will be available in Malaysia on November 13 (Friday). The pricing will be as below:

iPhone 12 Series

iPhone 12 Mini 64GB: RM 3399

iPhone 12 Mini 128GB: RM 3599

iPhone 12 Mini 256GB: RM 4099

iPhone 12 Pro Max 128GB: RM5299

iPhone 12 Pro Max 256GB: RM5799

macOS Big Sur Update Has Been Causing Trouble For Macbook Users

Where do I start? I’ll start sharing my own experience with the new macOS Big Sur Update. Yesterday, I can’t use a few of my programs unless I update to the macOS Big Sur so I decided while it’s still early in the morning and I will still have time to get some work done on time, I’m going to update my Macbook.

I assumed it was going to be like previous updates and since I’m a new Macbook user, I wasn’t at all prepared to what’s about to happen. I followed the update instructions and read all the warnings and updated my macbook. After it finished updating, everything on my laptop is gone. Everything.

I started to panic and asked Apple Support for help to restore all my folders and files cause I still have work to do. There’s more to this story but let’s say I didn’t have much time to ask so many questions and do step by step on how to restore my files cause I have work to do.

So I only managed to do whatever it is I can for work yesterday and it was only last night where I had more time to finally restore everything back. It was a nightmare. But apparently, I wasn’t the only one facing problems after the new Big Sur update.

Owners of 13-inch MacBook Pro models that were released in late 2013 or mid 2014 have encountered a fatal issue that caused just that when attempting to update their machines to macOS Big Sur. Oh boy.

The owners have taken to Reddit, Twitter, and the Apple support forum to report the problem. They explain that during the update to the new macOS version, their MacBooks froze and displayed a black screen. My problem was bad but at the very least I could still get my laptop going to get some things done. These people couldn’t even do anything.

Apple did what they can to respond and help. One Reddit user shared that Apple instructed them to send in their device for a repair. Another user said that the issue has been brought up to Apple’s engineering team, indicating that the company should now be aware of it.

How in the world did this happen? The only explanation I got from Apple was that there was a possible glitch that occurred when updating but it’s not confirmed whether these glitches and problems happened because of the users themselves or the Big Sur update.

What about you guys? Did something happen to your Macbooks? Share us your experience with the new update in the comments below

After months of rumours, they’re finally here, putting speculations and “leaks” to rest. Gotta be honest, thought they never come. Not that I’m a huge Apple fan or anything. I only own 1 Apple product and a secondhand one at that.

Anyways, Apple has officially introduced the new AirPods Max Wireless Headphones! Applause! Applause! Even though I’m not much of an Apple fan but I gotta be honest, that looks sexy. The AirPods Max headphones are linked together with a stainless steel headband that is wrapped in a soft-touch material and also features a knitted mesh canopy.

AirPods Max is also equipped with a pair of custom 40 mm dynamic drivers, each accompanied by a dual neodymium ring magnet motor. Like the AirPods Pro, the Apple H1 chip is also present inside the new wireless headphones that power their key features, such as the Adaptive EQ, which measures and adjusts the real-time sound quality delivered to the user based on the fit and seal of the AirPods Max ear cushions.

Active Noise Cancellation feature is all the buzz now so does this headphones comes with it? You’ll be happy to know that the answer is yes. The new AirPods Max also comes with Active Noise Cancellation feature which utilises eight microphones that are located all over the headphones.

Interesting enough, AirPods Max are also equipped with a Digital Crown just like Apple Watch. On the headphones, it can be used to control volume as well as music playback, phone calls, and to activate Siri. Similar to other AirPods, putting the AirPods Max on will also automatically starts the audio playback.

How about battery life? Can’t listen to some tunes if your headphones dying too soon. Well, Apple claimed that the AirPods Max can provide a listening time of up to 20 hours with ANC or Transparency mode on.

Not sure about fast charging though (does any Apple product come with fast charging?) but it is said that you can listen to about an hour of music or entertainment after a 5 minute charge so I guess that’s okay. Also each AirPods Max are accompanied with a Smart Case that helped save their battery charge when not in use.

Available in Space Grey, Silver, Green, Sky Blue, and Pink, AirPods Max have a general shipping date of December 15 although the exact release date in Malaysia is not yet known at the moment but Apple has listed the new headphones on its Malaysian website for RM 2399.

Apple is Testing the Foldable Screen for the Upcoming iPhone

Apple is undoubtedly, one of the most famous smartphone brands in the world. Despite the controversies alleged around the brand and the products, people are still buying them for the personal purposes. Even that, they also always keep up on tracks to make sure they know what the consumers are looking for in their iPhones.

Apple is reportedly to begin working on the development for foldable iPhone that may be debuting in future. According to Bloomberg, the California-based company has developed the prototype for the foldable screens for internal testing but hasn’t made it solid to launch it.

The reports also state that the testing is similar to those from Samsung which have invisible hinges with the electronics behind the display which is not like Microsoft’s Surface Duo that have a visible hinge separating two panels.

A foldable iPhone would let Apple to make larger screen devices in a more compact package just like Samsung’s Galaxy Fold, the Motorola Razr reboot and other brands from Chinese companies including Huawei Technologies Co. Apple also has discussed a number of screen sizes, including one that unfolds to a similar size as the 6.7-inch display on the iPhone 12 Pro Max. Though there are no official size of the screen to be announced yet.

As a comparison, Huawei also has manufactured the foldable smartphones to which its screens can be folded exteriorly as for Samsung, the Galaxy Fold can be folded from the inside. The prototype from Oppo anyway is featuring a rolling OLED display during its Inno Day 2020 event back in November 2020. LG, joining the team at this year’s virtual Consumer Electronics Show with the rollable smartphones, LG Rollable.

Anyway, it’s an iPhone so there must be something more. Due to the current pandemic and how everyone has no choice but to wear a mask, Apple brought back the Touch ID with its upgrade; an in-screen fingerprint reader. The facial recognition, however, is still not going to be removed.

The discussion also includes removing the charging port for some iPhone models in favor of wireless charging. This is because of the shift to magnetic MagSafe charging system with the iPhone 12, in addition to removing the charging brick from the iPhone box last year.

As a summary, foldable smartphone is not exactly a very latest innovation but it is surely a good thing to see in future. Apple keep tracks with the development of the other brands resembles their willingness to stay update with consumer’s needs and trends in technology itself. It is just up to us to see who is the better player in this game.

Samsung Will Be Removing Chargers and Headphones from Future Products

Remember when we were small (some until they ‘re adults), our mom will always say “so if your friend jump off the cliff, you also follow?” whenever we are following our friends’ words? This is exactly the same story. In this case, Samsung is the child who is following the friend to jump off the cliff.

Apple has received mockeries and memes as they removed the charging bricks from its iPhones. The mockeries are not just came from the netizens but also their rivals as well. Funny enough, those remarks are the one who made the competitors followed the footsteps.

The words have been flying around for quite some time that Samsung is to dismiss the chargers from their phone way before the iPhone 12 and Galaxy S21. A Facebook post mocking the gesture is also made implying Samsung would never do that.

The vice versa happened instead. The Galaxy S21 line was revealed without charger and earphones. Even Patrick Chomet, the EVP and Head of the Customer Experience Office at Samsung has assured it.

“We believe that the gradual removal of charger plugs and earphones from our in-box device packaging can help address sustainable consumption issues and remove any pressure that consumers may feel towards continually receiving unnecessary charger accessories with new phones, ”  claimed Chomet.

The company also added that as it has been executing USB-C type charging ports since 2017 hence those older chargers can still be compatible with the latest Galaxy phones, tablets, etc. However, Samsung is doing this gradually so probably not all of their new devices will be shipped without the chargers.

Will this mean Galaxy Note 21 will be another flagship by Samsung to not have charger or earphones? It’s a ‘yes’ or ‘no’ question.

Maybe in 20 years or probably less, chargers will be only something we can see in the museum, next to the public phones.

Apple Brings Chrome Extension To Let You Access Saved iCloud Passwords on Windows

Apple has provided you with lots of extensions for its users for their convenience. Other than iTunes, Apple also offers iCloud sync clients for files, photo and mail on Microsoft’s operating system. Hence, Apple is now extending its presence on Windows with an iCloud Passwords Chrome extension.

As reported by a user, Apple has pulled the version 12.0 of iCloud for Windows even though the release notes still mention the new password feature from the Microsoft Store. The extension works for those that are updated to 12.0 last week but deemed as launched too early and doesn’t have all components in place.

Apple Has quietly published the extension to the Chrome Web Store to which users will see a new “Passwords” section in the list of available services. Just tap “Apply” to proceed at the bottom and open a dialog box to download the tool inside Chrome.

The extension provides access to the passwords you’ve created, automatically generated or saved in Safari for iOS and macOS while using Chrome. The sync is bi-directional with new credentials you store in Google’s browser saved to the iCloud Keychain which make it accessible on iPhone, iPad, and Mac devices. The extension encourages users to “Choose a saved password to use” when signing in and the website and email address are listed underneath.

This iCloud Passwords Chrome tool joins Apple’s only other extension for older Windows (7 + 8) PCs: iCloud Bookmarks. Meanwhile, Apple also offers this feature to the Apple TV+ for the Xbox.

This extension is still not available in Malaysia or maybe is still in development. Anyway we are hoping that the extension is soon to be well-developed so that we can enjoy the excitement using the extension soon.

Apple Lets You Use Face ID With Masks – With Apple Watch

As it is well known that in order to flatten the curve, we need to wear a mask and stay apart one meter from each other. Now emphasising on the mask wearing section, for iPhone users that depends on Face ID, it is a hassle to do so. This is because Face ID doesn’t recognise a face without nose and mouth.

Hence, Apple did something with it for their iOS 14 version 14.5 as well as watchOS 7.4. Looking at the insight that this feature also involves watches, yes, it does include Apple Watch.

For the users of the latest models of iPhone, it is better for you to have an Apple Watch too now because apparently, you might need to unlock your phone with a mask soon. Apple has released the iOS 14.5 and iPadOS 14.5 beta updates for developers, and included is a feature that’s designed to make it easier to unlock an iPhone while wearing a mask by leveraging the Apple Watch.

Basically, an opt-in setting lets you turn on a feature that allows an ‌iPhone‌ to be unlocked with both Face ID and an authenticated Apple Watch combined. You can find it in the Settings, to the Face ID & Passcode section, put your passcode and toggle on “Unlock with Apple Watch.”

Both iOS 14.5 and watchOS 7.4 are required to enable this feature, you can unlock your phone with an unlocked and authenticated Apple Watch while wearing a mask. For the first time, you’ll need to enter a passcode, but after that, Apple Watch unlocking is smooth, seamless, and quick.

You will feel a slight vibration on your wrist when you wear a mask and use the Face ID to let you know that it is unlocked also with a notification that pops up on the watch.

Face ID will work like normal on the ‌iPhone‌, so you’ll only feel a difference through the Apple Watch, though sometimes there’s a slight delay that says “unlocking ‌iPhone‌ with Apple Watch.” It depends on the distance between your phone and your watch.

However, you cannot make an Apple Pay or App Store purchase with the Apple Watch, nor can you use it for authenticating in apps that use Face ID which means you still need to remove the mask.

For security purposes, the feature is entirely opt-in and is not enabled by default. You need an unlocked Apple Watch for this to work, so there’s no way to use it with an Apple Watch that has not been unlocked via the ‌iPhone‌ or by your Apple Watch passcode.

Actually, this is a brilliant update too as it helps to unlock the iPhone effortlessly. It would be a privilege especially for those who own both iPhone and Apple Watch at the same time. Maybe sooner or later, Apple will bring back the Touch ID on their new phones. Who knows, right?

Apple and Facebook Are In Feud On Data Privacy

Raise your hand if you’ve ever felt personally victimised by the data breach? Well, then let’s gather around the campfire because you’re about to hear a drama. This drama is revolving around two Internet giants; Apple and Facebook.

It is no secret that Apple and Facebook have different ways of thinking regarding users’ security. Apple always prioritises data privacy while Facebook is kind of having a reputation on using the data. Now, the two key players are rebutting to give users the option whether to accept or refuse the collection of their data.

As we know, Facebook is using our data for its business model. Have you ever noticed that whenever you post a status or chat anyone on Facebook, you must get an advertisement for anything related to it? In particular, Facebook is worried about the possible effect of the decision on all businesses who are actually using it for advertising purposes and who receive a substantial part of their revenue from it.

Apple prevented this from happening by introducing a disclaimer message with each new download from the App Store in the latest version of iOS, coming this spring. The message will ask users if they are willing to share their personal data to be collected by the application installed.

To clear the intense atmosphere, Mark Zuckerberg and Tim Cook are now taking aim at one another by various means and media. Facebook has launched a marketing campaign to convince the users to accept being tracked for advertising purposes (yes, you read it right). Facebook is also playing defensive on saying that it could help the small and medium-sized companies that are increasingly dependent on advertising to survive amid the pandemic and its economic impacts.

Apple however, stands by its ground to protect their users’ data from their products.

In case you are wondering, you still can use Facebook all on your iPhone or any Apple products with or without giving away your personal data. And this is also not the first time Apple caught in such an issue. Last year, in summer 2020, Epic Games’ Fortnite was removed from the App Store for violating Apple’s commission collection regulations (30 percent) on in-app purchases.

No one likes to be stalked be it for personal reasons nor for business purposes. While both parties are having their own perspectives on the matter, the users’ privacy and rights must have been taken into consideration as well. After all, we have no choice but to use both of them regardless the policies.

Apple Maps Will Bring In Accident and Speed Trap to New Updates

$

Driving can bring us to our destination but it can also bring us to some expected and unexpected consequences. By unexpected consequences, it means we would have chances to encounter any accidents or at least, speeding at a speed trap area. Thanks to technology, we have apps such as Waze to aid us in terms of navigation.

However, Waze might have a new rival. In iOS 14.5 beta, Apple Maps is going to add a new Apple Maps feature that lets you report accidents, hazards, and speed checks along your route when getting directions.

As you put your address, you can select a route you’re comfortable with and then click ‘Go’. Siri will let you know that you can report accidents or hazards that you encounter along the journey.

If you swipe up on the ‌Apple Maps‌ interface where maps details are available, you can tap on a “Report” button that lets you flag an accident, a hazard, or a speed check, similar to other mapping apps like Waze. Tap automatically flags your location with no confirmation window, so it shouldn’t be used except in a valid situation.

Conveniently enough, you can also just say “Hey Siri, there’s an accident” and Siri will report it to Apple Maps and an accident site will show up in the maps app through crowdsourcing if enough people file the similar reports.

For the time being, it is only available in the United States in a test form. It is still not disclosed yet when it will be available in other countries.

Anyway, ‌Siri‌ will inform you about the new accident reporting functionality the first time that you seek directions after upgrading to iOS 14.5, though the feature was not mentioned prior to that. There is no similar accident reporting features in iOS 14.4.

However based on reports through Reddit, the feature is still not available on iOS 14.5 in the United States. This means if it’s either the server-side issue or it will be seen thoroughly once it leaves the beta stage.

For better or worse, the updates sound promising and it can literally save lives. Perhaps it will be a healthy competitor to Waze as well as providing us more choices for navigation purposes.
